We are Michael and Chris of Malvern Carpentry and we have been best friends ever since meeting in 2009 at a local watering hole "The Unicorn" and with over 20 years experience in the trade between us. We have both come from wood working background all though via different paths. We set up Malvern Carpentry for 2 reasons: One - to provide the local community with great quality craftsmanship. Two - to be able to work together to create a company that is trusted by everyone for being reliable, honest and trustworthy because at the end of the day our job is to improve the quality of your lives. Malvern Carpentry is the trading name of Malvern Carpentry Services Limited.
Michael’s journey blends military service with a deep-rooted passion for carpentry. As a trained carpenter joiner in the Royal Engineers, he developed his craft under pressure, becoming adaptable and resilient. A standout moment of his career was helping rebuild critical infrastructure in the Caribbean after Hurricanes Irma and Maria, where he restored roofs and power to schools and power stations.
In 2019, after nearly a decade of service, Michael left the army to prepare for the birth of his daughter and pursue his woodworking passion. With a keen focus on window restorations, he is honing his skills on historic buildings and barn conversions, continuing to build a reputation for delivering quality craftsmanship.Chris’s passion for carpentry ignited at an early age—well before most kids even think about picking up tools. At just 7 years old, he wanted to build jumps for his BMX. His father, recognizing his curiosity, handed him a hammer and saw, telling him, "You’re smart enough to figure it out." Under his father's watchful eye, Chris crafted his first project, sparking a lifelong love for creating things with his hands.
After leaving school, Chris pursued an apprenticeship at M&G Joinery in Hanley Swan, where his natural talent quickly stood out. As one of their top joiners, he mastered the craft and eventually founded his own company, "Genetic Joinery." Over the years, Chris has tackled increasingly complex projects, proving not only his skill but his dedication to the art of woodworking. Now, Chris is embarking on an exciting new chapter, both personally and professionally. As he prepares to start a family, he's also taking on the challenge of converting a barn into the future family home—combining his craftsmanship with his vision for the future.James joined Malvern Carpentry in March 2025. A dedicated and talented individial he has very quickly become a valued asset to our team.
James's interest in carpentry started in high school so after 2 years of 6th form he embarked on his carpentry course at college. Three years later fully qualified and ready to go join the industry he found himself by the side of a local stone mason. Another three years later James took another leap of faith and joined Malvern Carpentry to pursue his ambitions of being a carpenter. Not only dedicated to his work James is also a bit Formular 1 mad, so if the F1 is at Silverstone we don't expect to see him for a few days as he'll be camped out with his girlfriend and mates enjoying the racing. Not too impartial to a spa day with his girlfriend either, James also enjoys playing golf in his free time.
